i would want to build my franchise around Carson Palmer. He is young and one of if not the best quaterback in the NFL right now. The best part is i don't even think he has reached his prime yet.

Appreciate the post:

i do agree that Carson Palmer is one of the top quarterbacks in the nfl; but i think if i was starting up my own team i'd have to start with Tom Brady. Three championships in four years (with slim receiving options) is tought to beat. After all, superbowl rings is what everyone is playing for.

What does everyone else think?

Clearly the answer to this question is Tom Brady and anybody who thinks otherwise should immediately get their head examined by an experienced physician. The guy is a naturally born leader who never lets any off the field distractions affect his game. Completion percentages are always at the top of the league and has never had any credible down the field threats until this year. Youngest quarterback to win a superbowl. Wait, there is more. He won two more on top of that. And yes, there is more. With wide receiver weapons this year, there is no telling how many superbowls this guy is going to win before his career is over. Anyone who refutes this argument is either jealous of Brady or just not informed of the facts.

I would also have to go with Tom brady. But if you could'nt pick a QB, I would have to go with my main man Randy Moss.100 yards and over on every game so far. basically superbowl champs, and sox lose in the first round.

Maybe I should get my head examined by an experienced physician Jon, do you have any recommendations?!? Because I would have to go with Vince Young. This guy is only 24 years old and he is single handedly taking down teams in the NFL. Not only is he the leader of the team at such a young age, but he is an exceptional physical specimen. When Tom Brady is 48 and relaxing in his retirement home, Vince Young will be ending his illustrious career; he'll probably even be John Edward Thomas Moynahan's favorite player.

I have to disagree with Palmer, one he is young but he had major knee surgery and he will never be the same. I can't go with a running back because it seems that each year there is a new prime time running back. The Patriots and Colts showed everyone that you don't need a top flight running back to win the Superbowl. It all about the quarterback and I'm going with the hometown player Tom Brady. Coaching is the most overrated position, sure you have an advantage with Bill Belichick as your coach but Tom Brady makes the plays and the throws. He reads the defense and everyone thought he wouldn't be the same without Charlie Weiss. Well the new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniel's is on his way to being the next new young coach like Jon Gruden or the Steelers coach. Tom Brady hands down number 1 and Manning is 1-A.

More on Palmer, he's doing great right now and he did well last year but who knows how long he can go on a bad knee.

Here is a new question to pose...how many players would you take over LT?

Matt Iorio said...

wild question.

I really think i would only take 2 players over LT...maybe 3. Brady,Manning and possibly Palmer...ony because i think having a solid QB is crucial...just having LT may not be enough.

Anonymous said...

My top guys over LT

1. Brady
2. Manning
3. Palmer
4. Peppers
5. Wilfork
6. Freeney

If you can't stop anyone with a solid D-line or put pressure on the QB without a blitz like Freeney your done. Quarterbacks and defense win championships.

Honorable mention: Richard Seymour but he's been injured so much I can't really list him.

First of all, wow, i thought you guys watched the NFL. For once, can you NOT BE BIASED TOWARDS THE PATS. I'll tell you one thing, u guys may be fans, but you don't know anything about analyzing football. Peyton Manning is without a doubt the only player that should be on that list. I won't even bother throwing numbers at you, just wait until he owns every meaningful quarterback record in 8 years. He single handedly led the colts to a superbowl, and will lead them to at least 3 more championships. Over LT??? Great question, I'd say Peyton (obviously) and that might be it. LT is SOOOOO UNDERRATED, just because he's not producing record breaking numbers does not take away from his talent. The only reason he isn't running for 150+ each game is because his team around him doesn't show up on Sunday.

PEACE

"Palmer will never be the same"

WHAT! he is just as good now as he was before the injury, if not better

Kevin said...

jon, i need to inform you that Ben Roethlisberger (sp) is the youngest quarterback to win a superbowl. also if superbowl rings means your the best in the game, if rex grossman won the superbowl last year would you say he is better than Peyton Manning becuase he has more rings? As Pardeep said there is to much biased towards the patriots! honestly they don't have a best player at any position in the NFL, Brady isn't what makes them good, it's the fact they that have good players all around and that's why they win games. Defense wins championships! if the patriots defense was let's say the browns defense how good would brady be, i think he would be pretty crappy because teams would run the ball down their throat and he would just be a average joe. some patriot fanatics just don't see the real picture. i am not saying Brady is bad, i am just saying he is clearly not the top at his position and if other guys including peyton manning, palmer, and even vince young down the road have a surrounding cast like brady around them it would be guys like them that are winning superbowls.

Matt Iorio said...

kevin you make some good points.

but just a couple things, i didn't say that superbowl rings makes one QB better than another; i said that superbowl rings is what everyone is playing for..which is true. Also, you're right that brady has a good team all around and that his defense is a big part of their success. I do agree with that. but if you look at his teams when the patriots won the superbowl there was no stand out player. Thats all everyone would talk about, there's no one better than the rest. So his surrounding cast wasn't anything special. When you look back brady had absolutely no receiving options ... think about it; Branch was his top receiver and what is Branch doing now? nothing. Branch went from superbowl MVP to just an average wideout just by switching QB's...i think that says a lot about the type of player brady is. He makes everyone around him better. Peyton Manning has Marvin Harrison (best WR in the game) Reggie Wayne (best #2 in the game) and a hell of a TE with Dallas Clark. Granted they don't have the defense the pats do .. but its not drastically worse. I think with everything Brady has done I take him 1st. Not taking away anything from these other players, I just think it takes a lot to out beat Brady, not for any bias reasons.

Matt Iorio said...

And gamesy i dont agree with you taking any of these D ends over LT...Yes a solid D line is important but you have to realize you only have 1 pick so ur going to take Wilfork over LT... sorry but thats just pure stupidity

Hate to break it to you all but Tom Brady is not the person to build a franchise around...you know why?? he's got baby mama drama...and it hasn't hurt him yet...but wait until he marries the beautfiul Gisele and has another kid...he won't be studying film, he will be changing diapers and massaging Gisele's feet, which is not a bad gig...but his focus on football will never be the same. Ok maybe thats a lie. Brady is one of the best alltime, but he's 30, prob give me another 10 years..but not eveyone is Farve with an arm that never falters. I need someone fresh outta the gate to lead my franchise and this man is VINCE YOUNG. He is a proven winner and has already shown this year with basically no offensive talent surrounding him that he can compete with the best teams. He will never be a fantasy gem, but we are talking real football. He is in his 2nd year....Vince Young is 24...gives me 6 more years with a franchise QB. Kid is a proven winner, National Title, winning record as a rookie. He has already done so much and has so much upside. Brady has already reached his peak, granted its a very high one. But Vince has the double threat of throw and run, and his throwing capabilties will only improve over time. Give this kid some talent around him he will win the superbowl. Might even be able to bring the no name titans to the playoffs this year in the toughest conference. Vince Young also will be willing to do commercials and promote the franchise much more then Brady does. Brady has decided to turn the media away, Young will embrace it. So from a business standpoint Vince will make more money for the franchise and probably will be able to sign him for less.

And look at his 4th quarter stats. Dude is a gem in the clutch. His QB rating in the 4th quarter is 105+...plays when it counts. I think we all remember the drive against USC..and the 30 yard td run to beat the texans last year...and its only the beginning

The choice of Palmer is a solid one but although he seems recovered, that torn acl scares me. I feel like it will take off a few years in his career and there is the chance of him injurying it again.

Bottom line..Vince wins game, hes young, hes exciting, hes marketable, amd hes coachable and hes what QB's are all about in todays era with defenses getting faster and faster. That is why Vince Young is the man to build your franchise around

and as far as the 16-0...they will not do it...not because they couldn't, but because backups will be playing when they take on the Giants the last game of the season at Gmen stadium, a game in which the Giants will desperatly need to win. But that will be their second loss anyway. @ Colts...they will lose this game. The Cover 2 wont let moss go deep, it will be all old school under passes take what they give you with wes welker having 16 catches. The Colts offense will put up too many points against the secondary. If it was home id give it to the pats, but on the road i dont see them pulling it off. PLayoffs will be a different story though. I got them at 14-2, home field throughout

peyton is a solid pick as well. Brady and peyton would be my 2,3.

but with Vince's age you have to take him as matt said earlier..while they are retired, vince will be winning 2 more superbowls
